What Happens when you report?

  • When a referral is received, multiple BIT members will be able to review it depending on the area of concern. The BIT will then determine whether action by the team is appropriate. If deemed appropriate, the team will meet to create a plan to engage the student and assess the behavior in question.
    Depending upon the reported behaviors, the following may occur:
    1. The team may communicate within the group to determine the best course of action;
    2. The reporting party may be contacted for further information/clarification;
    3. The team may elect to seek additional information from other sources such as Faculty to determine whether the behaviors have been observed elsewhere;
    4. A member of the BIT may contact the student to provide campus/community resources or to schedule a time to meet to discuss their concerns;
    5. In certain situations the BIT may mandate an assessment at the Counseling Center (HWC).
    6. Dependent upon the reported behaviors of concern, the student, Director of Development & Services, or UIS may be consulted for follow up.
